Adult dose
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Usually, 10 mg is administered orally once a day, and depending on symptoms, it can be increased to 20 mg once a day. Usually, treatment lasts up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks, and if not treated after 8 weeks, may continue with an additional 8 weeks of 10 mg or 20 mg. For symptom relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg once daily. If symptoms do not improve after 4 weeks, additional consultation is needed. After symptoms have resolved, on-demand therapy with 10 mg once daily may be used to manage any recurrence of symptoms. For long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily, depending on the patient. For Helicobacter pylori eradication: Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection should be treated with eradication therapy. It is recommended to combine this drug (20 mg) with clarithromycin (500 mg) and amoxicillin (1 g), administered twice daily for 7 days. For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: The recommended initial dose for adults is 60 mg once daily. The dosage may be adjusted up to 120 mg per day based on individual patient needs. Doses of 100 mg can be administered once daily, while doses of 120 mg should be divided into 60 mg each twice daily. Patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome have been treated with this medication for up to a year. Regarding patients with liver dysfunction: Adverse reactions of hepatic encephalopathy have been reported in patients with liver cirrhosis. Therefore, use should be done cautiously. Regarding children: Safety in pediatric patients has not been established. Regarding the elderly: Caution is advised in those with decreased liver function.

This medication treats ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, alleviates symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and is used for long-term maintenance therapy. Additionally, it is used in combination with antibiotics to enhance therapeutic effects in patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected by Helicobacter pylori. It is also applicable in Zollinger-Ellison syndrome to control excessive gastric acid secretion. This medication is used for the treatment and symptom improvement of various gastrointestinal disorders.

How to take

Adult dose

For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Usually, 10 mg is administered orally once a day, and depending on symptoms, it can be increased to 20 mg once a day. Additionally, long-term use may lead to electrolyte imbalances such as hypomagnesemia, necessitating periodic testing. This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract; if symptoms like diarrhea persist, inform healthcare professionals immediately. Caution is needed while driving or operating machinery as drowsiness may occur. When taken with other medications, interactions may arise, so it is crucial to inform healthcare professionals of any concurrent medications being taken. There is no special antidote for overdose; appropriate treatment should be administered based on symptoms. This medication should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed. Keep out of reach of children and avoid transferring to other containers.
