Improvement of hypertension and diabetic nephropathy
This medicine is used to effectively control blood pressure in patients with hypertension. It is particularly effective in treating patients with kidney disease among those suffering from type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is important to use this medication for the prevention and management of complications related to hypertension. For hypertension treatment, the initial and maintenance dose of Losartan Potassium is administered orally as 50 mg once daily. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the dose may be divided into 2 doses per day or increased to 100 mg once daily. For treating kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes, the usual dose is 50 mg once daily, with the possibility of increasing to 100 mg once daily depending on blood pressure. There are also recommendations for an initial dose of 25 mg in some cases.

Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, hereditary angioedema, and those with issues related to lactose in this medication should not use it. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, and patients with slightly impaired liver function should use this medication cautiously and beware of excessive drops in blood pressure. While taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, muscle cramps, back pain, cough, and indigestion may occur, so patients should monitor their physical condition closely. If symptoms of angioedema or severe allergic reactions appear, the medication should be discontinued immediately and medical consultation sought. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is advisable to consult a doctor when taken with potassium supplements, certain diuretics, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication, and in unavoidable cases, should consult a professional and discontinue breastfeeding. Children, especially those under 6 years old or those with severely impaired kidney function, should not use this medication. In cases of overdose, hypotension and arrhythmias may occur, necessitating immediate treatment, and this medication is not removed by hemodialysis.
