Treatment of hypertension and nephropathy in type 2 diabetes patients
This medication is primarily used for the treatment of hypertension. It is particularly effective in preventing and treating nephropathy in type 2 diabetes patients with hypertension. Thus, it helps to reduce the risk of complications associated with hypertension. Overall, it contributes to blood pressure control and kidney function protection, improving the health of patients.
This medication can be taken irrespective of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time each day. For the treatment of hypertension, an oral dose of 50 mg of Losartan Potassium once daily is recommended. If the treatment effect is insufficient, it may be administered in two divided doses daily, or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For the treatment of nephropathy in type 2 diabetes patients with hypertension, the usual dose is 50 mg once daily.
For children and adolescents aged 6 years and older weighing between 20 kg and less than 50 kg, the recommended dose is 25 mg once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 50 mg once daily according to blood pressure response.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should not be taken by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Patients with severely impaired liver function or certain genetic disorders should also not use this medication. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function, low blood pressure, or hyperkalemia should use this medication with caution and require regular blood tests and monitoring of their condition. This medication lowers blood pressure; however, side effects such as dizziness, headache, muscle pain, and indigestion may occur, so if there are any unusual symptoms, consult a healthcare professional. In particular, patients taking this medication should not arbitrarily take potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium, and they must inform their healthcare provider about any other medications they are taking due to potential drug interactions. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication, and if unavoidable, breastfeeding should be discontinued. In case of overdose, blood pressure decrease and heart rhythm abnormalities may occur, so appropriate medical treatment should be sought immediately.
Hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, angioedema, severe allergic reactions, high fever, severe rashes, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, severe abnormal skin reactions, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory issues accompanied by cough and fever, breathing problems, yellowing of the skin or eyes, jaundice, generalized lethargy, liver abnormalities, sudden and severe headache
