Improvement of symptoms in Alzheimer's type dementia
This medication is used for the treatment of symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia.
As donepezil hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once a day at bedtime. If unusual dreams, nightmares, or sleep disturbances occur, consider taking it in the morning. Donepezil concentration reaches normal levels after 15 days of administration, and the incidence of adverse events may be affected by the rate of dose increase. Administer 5 mg for 4 to 6 weeks; after evaluating the clinical response during this period, the dose may be increased to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg per day, caution should be exercised to monitor for gastrointestinal side effects.
There is no experience of use in children.
This medication contains donepezil hydrochloride as an active ingredient and is primarily used to treat symptoms of Alzheimer's type dementia. This medication should not be administered to specific patients, including those who are allergic to donepezil or any components of this medication, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and individuals with genetic metabolic abnormalities such as lactose intolerance or galactose intolerance. Patients with heart-related diseases, a history of gastrointestinal ulcers, asthma or obstructive lung disease, and those with extrapyramidal disorders like Parkinson's disease should be cautious when using this medication. This medication may cause serious side effects such as a slow heart rate, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver function abnormalities, seizures, and muscle-related symptoms, so if any of these symptoms are suspected, immediate consultation with a physician is advised. Also, more common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, and fatigue may occur, requiring caution. Patients with heart, liver, or gastrointestinal diseases should undergo regular examinations and monitoring, and caution is needed when driving or operating machinery due to possible dizziness or drowsiness. It is advisable for pregnant or nursing women not to use this medication, and if necessary, they should consult a specialist before use. Safety for use in children has not been established, and it should not be administered to children. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are currently taking any other medications, you must inform your medical provider, especially if using heart medications, antibiotics, antidepressants, or antipsychotic drugs. In case of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, severe muscle weakness, and breathing difficulties may occur, and immediate emergency treatment is required; atropine can be used as an antidote. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is recommended not to transfer it to another container.
Fainting, bradycardia, heart block, QT interval prolongation, myocardial infarction, heart failure, peptic ulcers, perforation of the duodenum, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatitis, liver dysfunction, jaundice, cerebral seizures, epilepsy, convulsions, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebrovascular disorders, extrapyramidal disorders (motor dysfunction, ataxia, motor disturbances, dystonia, tremors, involuntary movements, gait disturbances, abnormal posture, speech disorders), neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent air or moisture from entering, and it is best to keep it at room temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius. Storing it this way will help maintain the medication's efficacy for a longer period.
