Precautions

This medication contains alfuzosin, which may be contraindicated for certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to alfuzosin or other ingredients in this medicine, those with orthostatic hypotension, severely impaired liver function, very poor kidney function, bowel obstruction, patients currently taking other alpha-blockers, and patients on strong CYP3A4 inhibitors should not be administered this drug. Additionally, certain patients, especially those taking antihypertensive medications, may experience orthostatic hypotension symptoms such as dizziness or fatigue when first taking this medicine, so caution is advised. Elderly patients, those with heart conditions, and patients taking antihypertensive medications or nitrates should also use this drug cautiously. This medication should not be prescribed alone to patients with coronary artery disease, and if symptoms of angina worsen, use should be discontinued immediately. Further, as it can affect the electrical activity of the heart, patients with a prolonged QT interval or those taking related medications should use it with caution. Common side effects while taking this drug include dizziness, headache, dyspepsia, constipation, weakness, and fatigue, while rare symptoms such as skin rash or low blood pressure may also occur. Patients planning cataract surgery should inform their ophthalmologist that they are taking this medication, as there may be issues with pupil dilation during the procedure. This drug should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed, as doing so may cause the effects to appear too quickly, increasing the risk of side effects. Additionally, this medication may pose a risk of lowering blood pressure too much when taken together with other antihypertensive drugs, so consulting healthcare providers is necessary. The safety of this medication has not been established in pregnant or nursing women, and it should not be used in children as it is not indicated for them. Dizziness or weakness may occur at the start of treatment, necessitating caution while driving or operating machinery. In the case of overdose, proper treatment should be sought in a hospital, as this medication is difficult to remove through dialysis. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided.
