Improvement in type 2 diabetes (blood sugar control)
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone, and when improvement in blood sugar is not achieved despite the use of other oral hypoglycemic agents, it is combined with sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin. Nutritional counseling and weight loss are also recommended for patients, and exercise is essential. These efforts are crucial not only for initial treatment but also for maintaining the effectiveness of medication over time. This medication effectively improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This medication should be taken orally once a day regardless of meals. 1. Monotherapy This medication can begin as a monotherapy at a dose of 15 mg once daily in patients whose blood sugar is not adequately controlled by dietary and exercise therapy. If sufficient effectiveness is not achieved with the initial dosage, it may be increased to 30 mg once daily. 2. Combination therapy - For a combination with sulfonylurea, administer 15 mg once daily.
The use of this medication in children under 18 years old has not been experienced, thus its administration is not recommended.
This medication helps control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. While taking this medication, attention must be paid to cardiac function. In some patients, this medication may worsen existing heart failure or cause it to occur. If symptoms such as rapid weight gain, shortness of breath, and swelling appear, consult a doctor immediately. It is advisable not to use this medication in patients with heart failure, and those with symptoms of heart failure should also avoid its use. This medication can cause fluid retention, and patients at risk for swelling or heart failure should exercise extra caution. Additionally, this medication should not be used in patients with bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer. Patients with impaired liver function or severely reduced kidney function should also avoid using this medication for safety reasons. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid taking this medication and should use appropriate contraception if taking it. Regular monitoring of blood sugar and liver function tests is required while taking this medication, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor immediately. When used in conjunction with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, care must be taken to avoid the risk of hypoglycemia, and dosage adjustments of other medications may be necessary. Weight gain and swelling may occur during treatment with this medication. Special caution is advised for elderly patients or those with a history of heart disease. This medication should be taken continuously alongside exercise and dietary control, and if sudden changes in weight or symptoms such as swelling or shortness of breath occur, consultation with healthcare personnel is required. Finally, this medication has not been proven safe or effective in children, so it should not be used in this population.
