This medication is used to treat myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension and stable angina and variant angina. It also reduces the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with documented coronary artery disease but without heart failure and with an ejection fraction greater than 40%. Furthermore, it helps lower the risks associated with coronary revascularization procedures. Therefore, it is effective in managing cardiovascular diseases and improving the patient's condition.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: 5 mg orally once daily as amlodipine, and the dose may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg once daily based on patient response. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Administration is contraindicated in patients with allergies to this drug or similar classes of drugs, nursing mothers, patients with severe liver dysfunction, severe aortic stenosis, and those in shock. Caution is advised when using this drug in patients with severe hypotension, those requiring dialysis due to renal failure, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. This medication is generally well-tolerated, but side effects may occur such as flushing, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, various adverse reactions such as excessively low blood pressure, vasculitis, neurological symptoms, gastrointestinal issues, skin rashes, hair loss, and respiratory difficulties have been reported, so any unusual symptoms should be consulted with a physician immediately. Caution is also necessary for heart failure patients or those with liver dysfunction, as the effects of this drug may differ. Additionally, since the drug's effect appears gradually, it is not suitable for acute angina situations. No special precautions are reported for driving or operating machinery. This medication may interact with several other drugs, so patients should inform healthcare providers if they are taking specific antibiotics, antihypertensives, anticoagulants, immunosuppressants, etc. Taking grapefruit juice with this medication may excessively enhance its effects, so co-administration is advised to be avoided. The safety of this drug during pregnancy and lactation has not been established; it should only be used carefully when necessary, and nursing is recommended to be discontinued. Use is recommended only in children aged 6 years and older; safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 6 years. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension and cardiac issues can occur, so it is crucial to adhere strictly to the dosage and seek emergency treatment immediately in case of overdose.
