View approved original text

This medication is used as an adjunctive treatment for weight loss, particularly in obese patients who do not respond well to diet and exercise therapy. For example, it is applicable to patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, or those with a BMI of 27 or more along with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia. This drug aids in a weight loss program that is primarily based on exercise, behavioral modification, and caloric restriction and is used for a short duration. Also, it should be used alone without the combination of other appetite suppressants to be safe and effective. Therefore, it is used as a medication that significantly aids in weight loss in the treatment of obesity.
