Nutritional improvement due to selenium deficiency supplementation
This injection is used to supplement selenium in patients with selenium deficiency that cannot be sufficiently filled through nutritional supply, thus improving the deficiency state.
As selenium, 100 μg is to be administered intramuscularly or intravenously per day. If necessary, the dosage may be increased up to 200 μg per day. When additionally administering to a basic total parenteral nutrition (TPN) injection, the daily dosage should be 100 μg as selenium.
This medicine contains selenium, so it should not be used in patients with selenium toxicity. Patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or its components should not be administered the injection. Pain or allergic reactions can rarely occur when injected, so caution is necessary. If symptoms such as dermatitis, bad odor during sweating or breathing, hair loss, anxiety, vomiting, etc., occur, administration should be stopped immediately. Care should be taken to avoid precipitation when mixed with other intravenous infusions, and if the solution's acidity is too low or if mixed with substances like vitamin C, selenium may precipitate, making it difficult for the body to utilize. Do not use if there is any precipitation or color change after mixing. Also, since this medication contains sodium, patients requiring low-sodium dietary control should consider this. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this drug only when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks to the fetus. Nursing mothers should discontinue breastfeeding or stop using the drug, as its safety has not been established. In case of overdose, symptoms such as a garlic-like smell from the mouth, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur. Chronic overdose may affect nail and hair growth and can cause neuropathy. Treatment for overdose may require gastric lavage, diuresis induction, high-dose vitamin C administration, and in severe cases, dialysis to remove selenium. Dimercaprol should not be used as it may exacerbate selenium toxicity. This medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and stored in a sealed container in a dry and cool place, avoiding direct sunlight. It should be used immediately after opening, and transferring to another container should be avoided as it is not conducive to maintaining quality and safety.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medicine should be stored in a sealed container to protect it from air and moisture. The storage temperature should be maintained between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, avoiding direct sunlight and keeping it in a cool, dry place.
