This medication is used to treat myocardial ischemia due to hypertension, stable angina, and variant angina. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients recently diagnosed with coronary artery disease through angiography, who do not have heart failure and have a cardiac output of over 40%. This effect improves the management of cardiovascular diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

The oral dose of esamlodipine is 2.5 mg once daily, and it may be increased to a maximum of 5 mg daily depending on the patient's response. Adjustments should be made appropriately based on symptoms.

Child dose

The oral dosing regimen for esamlodipine for effective blood pressure reduction is 1.25 mg to 2.5 mg once daily. Doses exceeding 2.5 mg per day have not been studied in pediatric patients.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For instance, patients who are allergic to this medication or similar drugs, nursing mothers, patients in severe shock, those with severe aortic stenosis of the heart, patients with unstable angina, those who have recently suffered a myocardial infarction, and patients with severe liver dysfunction or hypotension should not take this medication. Abruptly stopping this medication may worsen symptoms, so the dose should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's instructions, and patients should be careful not to discontinue it arbitrarily. It is best to take this medication with a sufficient amount of water, and since low blood pressure may cause dizziness, patients should be cautious when driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication can be taken together with other antihypertensives, certain antibiotics, analgesics, and antidiabetic drugs, but interactions with some medications may increase side effects, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals about any medications being taken. In particular, it is advisable to avoid taking it with grapefruit juice as it may enhance the drug's effects. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before taking this medication, and if breastfeeding, it is recommended to stop nursing. It is approved for use in children aged 6 and older; safety and efficacy have not been established for children under 6 years of age.
