Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and by breastfeeding women. It should not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation as it may stimulate gastrointestinal motility and be harmful. It should not be used in certain patients whose blood pressure may be elevated due to tumors, and in patients who have allergic reactions or intolerances to this medication. It is safer not to use this medication in patients with epilepsy, manic states, or certain phases of bipolar disorder. Patients with malignant diseases related to the breasts should also not be administered this medication due to the potential for side effects. Particular caution should be taken when using this medication in patients with hypertension, children, and elderly patients. This medication may cause menstrual irregularities or excessive lactation and gynecomastia due to hormonal secretion abnormalities, so it should be discontinued immediately if such symptoms occur. Neurological side effects such as tremors or tongue twisting and agitation may rarely occur, and the medication should be stopped if these symptoms arise. With long-term use, involuntary movements around the face may occur, requiring caution. In the gastrointestinal system, symptoms such as dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation may occur. Cardiac-related side effects such as hypertension or arrhythmia may develop, hence the condition should be monitored closely. Although rare, a serious side effect called neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, characterized by high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness; if these symptoms appear, discontinue the medication immediately and seek emergency treatment. Allergic reactions such as skin rashes or swelling may occur, so discontinue the medication if these symptoms arise. During treatment with this medication, symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, and insomnia may appear, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery. With long-term administration, changes in sex hormones may lead to menstrual disorders or breast changes, although these are mostly reversible. This medication may interact with other drugs, particularly those affecting gastrointestinal motility or heart rhythm, so caution is required when co-administered. Use with alcohol may lead to unexpected side effects, hence they should not be taken together. It should not be used in pregnant or nursing mothers as it may pose risks to the fetus or newborn. Elderly patients should be cautious as kidney function may decline, leading to prolonged presence of the drug in the body, increasing the risk of side effects; dosage and frequency should be adjusted accordingly. This medication may mask symptoms of other diseases due to its antiemetic effects, so observation of changes in symptoms must be diligent. Animal studies have reported reproductive functional decline and tumor occurrence potential, thus caution is needed for long-term use.
