Improves blood pressure control when monotherapy for hypertension is insufficient
This medication is used for patients with high blood pressure that is not adequately controlled with monotherapy. It effectively lowers blood pressure and helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
The usual dosage for adults is 1 tablet of Losartan Potassium 50 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. Dosages exceeding Losartan Potassium 100 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg daily are not advisable. If blood pressure is not controlled with either Losartan or Hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy, treatment can be started with Losartan Potassium 50 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily.
There is no experience in using this medication in children and adolescents (under 18 years), therefore it should not be administered to these populations.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain diseases or conditions, such as those with severely impaired kidney function, severe liver impairment, or allergic reactions. Patients with significantly low blood pressure or severe electrolyte imbalances, as well as those with hyperuricemia or gout, should be cautious when taking this medication. Elderly patients or those with cerebrovascular diseases may be at risk for dizziness or low blood pressure while taking this medication, so it should be used with caution and according to a doctor's instructions. Since this medication contains hydrochlorothiazide, regular monitoring of electrolyte status is necessary, and observation for symptoms of hypokalemia or hyponatremia should be conducted carefully. During treatment with this medication, if sudden severe vomiting, diarrhea, or dehydration occurs, consult a healthcare professional immediately, and be aware of symptoms caused by electrolyte imbalances. Additionally, this medication can cause sensitivity to sunlight, so precautions against UV exposure should be taken during treatment, and any skin abnormalities should be reported immediately. There may be interactions with other medications, so if taken with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, certain antihypertensives, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, it is essential to consult with a doctor or pharmacist. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur when driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised, especially at the beginning of treatment or when changing the dose. There is no experience with this medication in children or adolescents, so it is best not to use it for these populations, and elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more frequently, requiring caution. Always follow your doctor's instructions regarding dosage and do not discontinue or alter the dosage without consultation.
