Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication, anuria, severe liver dysfunction, or severe renal impairment should not take it. Patients with hypotension, impaired renal function, liver disease, hyperuricemia, or gout should use this medication with caution. As this medication lowers blood pressure, dizziness or drowsiness may occur during the initial weeks of treatment, requiring caution when driving or operating machinery. During treatment, it is important to regularly check electrolyte levels in the blood, particularly potassium and sodium concentrations, for any abnormalities. This medication should not be taken with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements without medical advice, as it may dangerously elevate serum potassium levels. The hydrochlorothiazide component can cause sensitivity to sunlight, increasing the risk of skin rash or non-melanoma skin cancer; therefore, sun exposure should be limited and protective measures taken. If symptoms of dehydration or electrolyte imbalance occur during treatment, such as thirst, weakness, muscle cramps, nausea, or vomiting, immediate consultation with a healthcare professional is recommended. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid taking this medication, as it may cause adverse reactions in infants during breastfeeding. Elderly patients may experience more frequent side effects, requiring special caution during treatment. This medication may interact with other antihypertensive drugs, diuretics, certain analgesics, and antibiotics, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications being taken.
