This medication is used for patients with hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.
The usual dose for this medication is 50 mg of losartan potassium and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide taken once daily as one tablet. Dosages exceeding 100 mg of losartan potassium and 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide per day are not advisable. For patients whose blood pressure is not controlled with either losartan or hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy: start with a regimen of 50 mg of losartan potassium and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide taken once daily as one tablet.
There is no experience in using this medication in children and adolescents, so the combination of losartan and hydrochlorothiazide is not administered to children and adolescents.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters. Therefore, if pregnancy is confirmed, discontinuation should occur immediately. Patients with allergies to any of the ingredients in this medication or certain kidney, liver, or electrolyte abnormalities should not take it. Patients with hypotension or impaired kidney function should use this medication with caution and follow a doctor's instructions. Electrolyte imbalances may occur due to the hydrochlorothiazide component, so it is important to check electrolyte levels regularly through blood tests. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Interactions with other medications may occur, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. Particularly, caution is necessary when taking potassium supplements or medications containing potassium, as this may lead to dangerously high potassium levels in the blood. The hydrochlorothiazide component may cause sensitivity to sunlight, increasing the risk of skin cancer; therefore, sun exposure should be avoided, and protective measures should be taken. Due to insufficient experience in children and adolescents, this medication is not recommended for use in that population. Elderly patients may experience side effects more frequently, so caution is advised when taking this medication. In the case of overdose, hypotension or heart-related side effects may occur; therefore, the prescribed dosage must be strictly adhered to, and medical advice should be sought in case of unusual symptoms.
