Child dose
Due to lack of experience in usage in children and adolescents, this combination of losartan-hydrochlorothiazide should not be administered to pediatric patients.

This medication is used in patients with hypertension whose blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled with monotherapy. It effectively lowers blood pressure and helps prevent cardiovascular complications.

How to take

Adult dose

The standard dosage of this medication is 50 mg of losartan potassium/12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide once daily, one tablet. Doses exceeding 100 mg of losartan potassium/25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide per day are not advisable. Start with one tablet of losartan potassium 50 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily; if blood pressure remains uncontrolled after 3 weeks of dosing, increase to a maximum of losartan potassium 100 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mouth/eye mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough+fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headaches, lightning-like headaches, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination issues

Mild side effects

Abdominal pain, edema, palpitations, lower back pain, dizziness, cough, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infection, weakness/fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, bronchitis, pharyngitis, chest pain, facial swelling, fever, orthostatic hypotension, fainting, angina, arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation, sinus bradycardia, tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation), cerebrovascular accident, hypotension, myocardial infarction, secondary AV block, loss of appetite, constipation, toothache, dry mouth, dyspepsia, flatulence, gastritis, vomiting
