This medication is used in patients with hypertension where control of blood pressure is difficult with monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet of Losartan Potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. The maximum dosage is 1 tablet of Losartan Potassium 100 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily. The dosage can be adjusted based on blood pressure control status, and if monotherapy is not effective, combination therapy may be used.

Child dose

There is no experience of use in children and adolescents (under 18 years old), so it should not be administered.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn when taken during pregnancy; it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Do not take if you have allergies to any ingredients contained in this medication or have specific kidney diseases, liver diseases, electrolyte imbalances, etc. Caution should be exercised in patients with hypotension or impaired kidney or liver function, and care should be taken to avoid excessively low blood pressure. The Hydrochlorothiazide component can cause electrolyte imbalances, so electrolyte status should be regularly checked through blood tests. If you experience sudden changes in vision or eye pain while taking this medication, consult a doctor immediately. If unusual symptoms such as cough, dizziness, or rash occur, inform healthcare personnel, especially since serious allergic reactions such as angioedema can occur. This medication can interact with other drugs; therefore, you must inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking. Elderly patients or those with diabetes, gout, or kidney disease require more careful management while taking this medication. Avoid excessive sun exposure while taking this medication and consult a doctor if there are any skin abnormalities. Be cautious as dizziness or drowsiness may occur when driving or operating machinery. This medication is not to be administered to children and adolescents. Follow the prescribed dosage and administrating method; do not discontinue or change it arbitrarily.

Serious side effects

Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema (swelling of lips and eyelids along with facial rash), tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, pulmonary edema, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), severe rash with high fever, blisters, peeling skin, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, mucosal membrane syndrome (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), severe allergic reactions, serious skin adverse reactions, respiratory problems, shortness of breath.

Mild side effects

Abdominal pain, swelling, palpitations, back pain, dizziness, cough, sinusitis, upper respiratory infection, weakness/fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, bronchitis, pharyngitis, chest pain, facial swelling, fever, orthostatic hypotension, fainting, angina, arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation, sinus bradycardia, tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation), cerebrovascular accident, hypotension, myocardial infarction, secondary atrioventricular block, loss of appetite, constipation, toothache, dry mouth, indigestion, flatulence, gastritis, vomiting.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication is sensitive to light; therefore, it should be stored in a container that can protect it from light. Additionally, it is best to store the medication at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. This way, the efficacy of the medication can be maintained longer.
