This medication is used for the treatment of male pattern baldness in adult males, specifically in those aged between 18 and 41 years, i.e., androgenetic alopecia. Male pattern baldness occurs due to genetic factors and hormonal changes, and this medicine helps to slow the progression of hair loss and promotes hair growth, thereby improving balding areas.

How to take

Adult dose

Generally, 1 mg of finasteride is taken orally once a day, and it can be taken regardless of meals. Typically, treatment efficacy is observed after at least 3 months of use, and continuous use is recommended to maintain the treatment effect. The treatment duration and efficacy should be evaluated continuously. Upon discontinuation, the treatment effect will disappear within 12 months.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in children or women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should avoid touching broken pieces of this medication, as it can be absorbed through the skin and pose risks to male fetuses. During the use of this medication, symptoms of depression or mood changes may occur, and if such symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a healthcare professional is advised. Pregnant individuals or those who may become pregnant should never take this medication as it may cause abnormalities in male fetuses' external genitalia. If there is a history of allergic reactions to this medication, or if there is lactose intolerance or allergies to soybean oil, peanuts, this medication should not be used. Patients with liver function issues need to be cautious when using this medication, and patients with dyslipidemia or diabetes should also use it with caution. This medication may lead to side effects related to sexual function, such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders. Prolonged use may be associated with breast tenderness or enlargement, testicular pain, and, rarely, male breast cancer; hence, report any unusual symptoms to a doctor. This medication may affect the risk of prostate cancer; therefore, men over 55 years old should receive regular check-ups while on this medication. This medication may affect serum PSA levels, which necessitates caution in interpreting test results. No specific antidote exists for overdose; however, if severe side effects occur, seek medical attention immediately. Keep this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers for safety. There are relatively few interactions with other medications, but inform healthcare providers about any other medications being taken. Pregnant or nursing individuals should not take this medication, and it is unknown whether this medication is secreted in breast milk.
