Relief of diabetic polyneuropathy
This medication helps alleviate neurological symptoms associated with diabetic polyneuropathy. It works by improving the function of nerves damaged by diabetes, thereby reducing discomfort and pain for patients. As a result, patients can effectively manage the symptoms they experience in daily life. Therefore, it is used for the relief of diabetic polyneuropathy.
Adults: Take 600 milligrams of thioctic acid once daily with plenty of water, approximately 30 minutes before breakfast.
This medication contains α-lipoic acid, and therefore should not be used by patients with allergic reactions to this ingredient or other excipients included in the drug. Additionally, there is insufficient clinical experience regarding safety and efficacy in children and adolescents, so it should not be administered. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal side effects such as rare occurrences of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur. Allergic symptoms such as rashes, hives, and itching may also arise, so caution is needed. Moreover, blood sugar levels may suddenly drop, leading to symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, sweating, headaches, and visual disturbances. Alterations in taste perception have been reported rarely. It is very important to avoid alcohol during the course of this medication. Alcohol can worsen nerve damage and reduce the therapeutic effects of this drug. This applies even during breaks from medication, so continuous caution is necessary. When taking other medications, be aware of potential interactions. In particular, the effectiveness of the chemotherapy drug cisplatin may be diminished, so avoiding concurrent use is recommended. Moreover, taking formulations containing iron, magnesium, calcium, or milk at the same time may impair absorption, so dosages should be separated. When taken with insulin or oral antidiabetic agents, there is a risk of blood sugar dropping too low, necessitating regular monitoring of blood sugar levels and adjustment of medication dosage as needed. If pregnant or breastfeeding, this medication should only be used if the benefits and risks are carefully considered and deemed appropriate by a physician. There is currently insufficient information regarding its effects on the fetus or newborns. In cases of overdose, serious toxicity symptoms may appear, so caution is warranted. Symptoms of toxicity may include confusion, generalized seizures, hypoglycemia, shock, muscle damage, and blood abnormalities; in such cases, immediate medical attention is required. This medication should not be stored above 30 degrees Celsius, and must be kept in a secure location out of the reach of children. Transferring the medication to a different container may lead to degradation in quality or accidents, so this should be avoided.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to avoid exposure to air or moisture. It is recommended to maintain a storage temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. This helps to preserve the effectiveness of the medication for a longer period.
