How to take

Adult dose

Take with a small amount of water at breakfast or another meal. ○ Adults 1. Mild to moderate essential hypertension The initial and average maintenance dose of torsemide is 2.5 mg orally once daily. If adequate blood pressure reduction is not achieved with this dose, the daily dose may be increased to 5 mg. Increasing the dose further generally does not increase efficacy. 2. Precautions

Caution must be exercised when administering this medication to patients with edema or ascites due to cirrhosis, as it may cause rapid fluctuations in fluid and electrolyte balance, potentially leading to hepatic coma. This medication should not be used in specific patients, including those under 12 years of age, hypotensive patients, patients with severe liver dysfunction, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those with severe renal failure. Patients' conditions should be carefully assessed before administration, especially for those with gout, diabetes, liver disease, or renal dysfunction, who require additional caution. This medication can cause electrolyte imbalances, hypokalemia, and hyponatremia, so regular monitoring of serum potassium, sodium, uric acid, and blood glucose levels is necessary. Various side effects may occur, such as cardiovascular abnormalities, gastrointestinal bleeding, worsening renal function, and skin allergic reactions; if any abnormal symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a healthcare provider is advised. It may interact with other medications, especially antihypertensives, diuretics, antibiotics, diabetes medications, and lithium preparations, so patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist. Alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment, and caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Symptoms of overdose, such as electrolyte imbalance and hypotension, may require immediate hospital treatment. Store in a place out of reach of children, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use this medication. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to side effects; therefore, it is important to start with a small dose and monitor their condition closely.
