This medication is used to improve atherosclerotic symptoms in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral arterial disease. It also effectively improves atherosclerotic symptoms such as death due to cardiovascular complications, myocardial infarction, and stroke in patients with acute coronary syndrome, i.e., those who have unstable angina or non-Q wave myocardial infarction, and have undergone coronary interventions or coronary artery bypass surgery. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation who have one or more vascular risk factors and are unable to use vitamin K antagonists. Therefore, it is widely used for the prevention and symptom improvement of cardiovascular diseases in these patients.

How to take

Adult dose

1. For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease, take Clopidogrel at a dose of 75 mg once daily orally. 2. For patients with acute coronary syndrome, initiate with a loading dose of 300 mg once daily orally on the first day, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg once daily orally. Aspirin 75 to 325 mg should be co-administered once daily at this time. 3. For patients with atrial fibrillation, take 75 mg once daily orally.

Precautions

This medication is used to prevent blood clots by helping the blood flow more easily, thereby helping to prevent heart attacks and strokes. Individuals with a genetic impairment of a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) may exhibit reduced efficacy of this medication, and in such cases, alternative treatment options should be considered. It is advisable not to co-administer this drug with certain medications (CYP2C19 inducers), as the concentration of the drug in the body may increase and the risk of bleeding may be elevated. Due to an increased risk of bleeding, individuals with a history of bleeding, severe liver impairment, those who are breastfeeding, or have certain genetic disorders should avoid using this medication. Patients with a high risk of bleeding, those about to undergo surgery, or patients on other bleeding risk medications should use this medication cautiously, and the medication should be discontinued for a certain period before surgery. This medication may cause side effects such as bleeding, reduced blood cell count, gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc.), and skin rashes; immediate consultation with a physician is warranted if any abnormal symptoms occur. If bleeding symptoms appear, inform medical personnel immediately, and it may be necessary to monitor the condition through blood tests. During pregnancy, the risk to the fetus is minimal, but there is a risk of bleeding at the time of delivery; thus, discontinuation of the medication prior to childbirth is recommended. In the case of breastfeeding, consider stopping the breastfeeding or discontinuing the medication, as it may be excreted in breast milk. Use in children is not recommended as the safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may have reduced physiological functions, increasing the risk of side effects like bleeding, thus dose adjustment and careful monitoring are necessary. Due to significant drug interactions, always inform healthcare providers about the use of this medication before starting new drugs or prior to surgery. Overdose may increase the risk of bleeding, and as there is no specific antidote, treatment such as platelet transfusions may be necessary in case of severe bleeding. Store this medication out of reach of children, and do not transfer it to other containers.
