Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had an allergic reaction to this medication or any of its components. It should also not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation, as stimulating gastrointestinal motility may be harmful. This medication contains lactose, so it should not be taken by patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders. During the course of treatment with this medication, serious allergic reactions such as shock or anaphylaxis may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored. There may be signs of liver dysfunction or jaundice, thus the liver health must be carefully assessed. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, and increased salivation may occur upon administration. Neurological symptoms such as headache, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and dizziness may also occur. Endocrine abnormalities such as gynecomastia or elevated prolactin levels may be present, so any unusual signs should be reported immediately. Blood tests may reveal thrombocytopenia or leukopenia, thus regular blood tests are necessary. Kidney function and liver function levels may increase, so they should be checked periodically. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions or extrapyramidal symptoms such as skin rash, itching, and tremors may occur; if any abnormal symptoms arise, discontinue use and consult medical personnel. This medication enhances the action of acetylcholine; therefore, consideration should be given when using it. If gastrointestinal symptoms do not improve, it should not be used long-term. When taken with anticholinergic agents, the effect of this medication may be reduced, so care should be taken to adjust the dosing intervals. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should only use this medication if the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. If breastfeeding, this medication may be excreted in breast milk, so it should be avoided if possible or breastfeeding should be discontinued if it is absolutely necessary to take it. Safety in pediatric patients has not been sufficiently established, so caution should be exercised. Elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more easily due to decreases in physical function, so symptoms should be closely monitored, and dosage adjustments or a drug holiday should be considered as needed. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it should be stored in its original container to prevent accidents or deterioration of quality.
