Prevention and treatment of pantothenic acid deficiency, improvement of side effects and dermatitis
This medication is used to prevent and treat pantothenic acid deficiency. Additionally, it is helpful in situations where the need for pantothenic acid increases or is not adequately obtained from the diet, such as in wasting diseases, hyperthyroidism, and during pregnancy and lactation. It is also used for the prevention and treatment of side effects of streptomycin and kanamycin, contact dermatitis, acute and chronic eczema, and various conditions suspected to be caused by pantothenic acid deficiency or metabolic disorders. Therefore, this medication is effective in improving and treating various pantothenic acid-related deficiency states and skin diseases.
As Dexpanthenol, administer 20-100mg by intramuscular or intravenous injection once a day for 1-2 times. For postoperative intestinal paralysis, administer 50-500mg once a day for 1-3 times, which may be increased up to 6 times if necessary. Adjust according to age and symptoms. For intravenous injection, mix 500mg of this medication with intravenous fluids such as dextrose injection or lactated Ringer's solution for slow intravenous infusion.
This medication is an ampoule injection, and caution must be taken when opening the container as glass fragments may enter. Special care is necessary when used by children or the elderly. This medication should not be used in patients with hemophilia. If symptoms of hypertension appear, use of this medication should be discontinued; therefore, cautious administration is required in patients with hypertension. Allergic reactions such as itching, rash, and hives may occur on the skin, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting or abdominal pain may rarely occur. Caution is necessary, as respiratory distress may occur if this medication is used within 5 minutes after administering a drug called suxamethonium. Blood pressure may drop slightly, and agitation may occur in the elderly. This medication should not be administered intravenously alone and should be used after a certain time interval following the administration of a parasympathomimetic or suxamethonium. Allergic reactions may rarely occur when used with antibiotics, anesthetics, or barbiturates, hence caution is necessary. In women, this medication may prolong the effect of suxamethonium. Pregnant or nursing women should only use this medication when the benefits outweigh the risks. Safety in children has not been established; therefore, it should be used cautiously. Additionally, it may be ineffective in patients with hypokalemia or mechanical bowel obstruction.
