View approved original text

This medication is used for overweight patients who do not respond to appropriate weight loss therapy. It is specifically used as a short-term adjunct therapy for obesity treatment based on calorie restriction in patients with a body mass index of 30 or higher, or with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia with a BMI of 27 or more. This medication should be taken alone without combining it with other appetite suppressants, and the decision to use it will be based on BMI calculation based on the patient's height and weight. This helps improve obesity and reduce related risk factors.

Precautions

This medication should be used alone and only for a short period, as taking it with other appetite suppressants can lead to severe heart problems. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of developing pulmonary hypertension, which is a dangerous condition, so caution is advised. This medication is not recommended for patients with heart valve issues, and it is crucial to thoroughly examine heart conditions both before and during administration. Patients with specific conditions such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, or mental anxiety should not use this medication. Moreover, children under 16, pregnant women, and patients with genetic lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Because this medication affects the central nervous system, caution is required while driving or operating machinery; diabetes patients may need to adjust their insulin dosage. In case of overdose, severe symptoms such as anxiety, coma, seizures, and abnormal blood pressure may occur, necessitating immediate treatment. It is advisable for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication, as its safety has not been established. This medication has a high potential for abuse and can cause psychological dependence; therefore, it must be used strictly according to a doctor’s prescription and instructions.
