Summary

Main use
Treatment of acute renal failure and poisoning (water-soluble toxins), improvement of hyperkalemia
Who receives it
Adults
Adult administration
Adults should be administered under the instruction of a qualified physician. For acute renal failure, a dosage of 2,000 mL/h is appropriate for a 70 kg adult patient, depending on the patient's metabolic level for waste removal. The dosage should be adjusted according to the patient's weight. The dosage and duration of blood dialysis, blood filtration, and blood dialysis filtration needed for the treatment of acute poisoning symptoms depend on the toxin concentration and the severity of clinical symptoms.

View approved original text

This drug is used as a fluid replacement solution or dialysis solution during blood filtration and dialysis filtration when continuous renal replacement therapy is needed for patients with acute renal failure. It is also used in cases of acute poisoning caused by water-soluble toxins that can be removed by filtration or dialysis. In particular, it is effectively applied to patients with hyperkalemia to help regulate potassium levels in the blood. Thus, this drug is used in various cases where renal replacement therapy is required and improves the control of the patient's fluids and toxins.

How it is given

Adult administration

Adults should be administered under the instruction of a qualified physician. For acute renal failure, a dosage of 2,000 mL/h is appropriate for a 70 kg adult patient, depending on the patient's metabolic level for waste removal. The dosage should be adjusted according to the patient's weight. The dosage and duration of blood dialysis, blood filtration, and blood dialysis filtration needed for the treatment of acute poisoning symptoms depend on the toxin concentration and the severity of clinical symptoms.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients who are allergic to any component of this drug, those with dangerously low potassium levels, those with metabolic alkalosis, and those with insufficient blood flow or a high risk of bleeding. While using this drug, gastrointestinal issues such as nausea or vomiting, changes in blood pressure, muscle cramps, electrolyte imbalances, and symptoms due to excess or insufficient fluid may occur. These symptoms may arise during the dialysis treatment process, so caution is necessary. Before and during treatment, various blood levels, including potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, phosphate, and glucose, should be regularly monitored, and fluid balance should be carefully managed. If electrolyte levels are too high or too low, the type of solution may need to be changed or the treatment method adjusted. This drug can interact with other medications, so patients taking heart medications like digoxin should be cautious. Additionally, caution should be taken when using it alongside Vitamin D or calcium supplements, as it may increase blood calcium levels. The safety of this drug has not been adequately established in pregnant women or nursing mothers, so it is recommended not to use it except in special cases. There is also insufficient research for children, so it is not recommended. In case of overdose, the balance of fluids and electrolytes in the body can be disrupted, and in severe cases, there may be issues with the heart or lungs, so immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. When using this drug, it is essential to mix both solutions before use and heat it to the appropriate temperature before infusion, ensuring the solution is clean and free from precipitates. If any precipitate forms, the solution and tubing should be replaced immediately, and the patient should be closely monitored. The mixed solution should be used within a specific temperature and time, and to prevent microbial infections, it should be used immediately after connecting to the dialysis device. Finally, this drug is known not to affect driving or machine operation ability.
