Precautions

This medication is used as a local anesthetic, and its use may lead to a rare blood disorder called methemoglobinemia. This condition reduces the blood's ability to carry oxygen, leading to a bluish discoloration of the skin, and in serious cases, issues with the central nervous system and heart function may arise. The risk is particularly high in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital methemoglobinemia, heart or lung damage, infants under 6 months old, and when used with oxidizing agents. Such patients should be closely monitored for the occurrence of symptoms while using this medication. Additionally, it should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this medication, in areas with wounds, in patients with atopic dermatitis, or in infants under 3 months old or premature infants. Caution is also needed when administering to patients with anemia or liver disease, the elderly, and weak patients, and those allergic to propylene glycol, which is included in this medication. Local use may cause the skin to become pale or red along with reactions such as swelling, itching, and burning sensations, and severe allergic reactions have been reported rarely. It can cause irritation if it comes into contact with the eyes, so avoid using it around the eyes, and if it gets into the eyes, rinse immediately with clean water. The risk of methemoglobinemia may increase if this medication is used with certain other drugs, so be sure to inform healthcare professionals if taking other local anesthetics or certain heart medications. Caution is warranted during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and safety has not been fully established in children, especially infants under 3 months old. In cases of overdose, neurological symptoms or signs of toxicity may occur, so immediate treatment and monitoring are needed if symptoms appear. It is recommended to avoid prolonged high-dose use of this medication and to follow the directions of healthcare professionals while using it.
