Treatment of hypertension
This medication effectively treats hypertension, either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents such as beta-blockers or diuretics. It helps control blood pressure appropriately, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is an important treatment method that assists patients in managing their blood pressure and improving symptoms of hypertension.
1. Adults The therapeutic dose of this medicine should be appropriately adjusted according to the patient's response and the severity of symptoms. The initial dose is 2 mg of lacidipine once daily. It should be taken at the same time each day, preferably in the morning, regardless of meals. If a dose increase is needed, increase to 4 mg once daily after an appropriate period has elapsed to allow the pharmacological effect to be adequately assessed. Increase to 6 mg once daily only if blood pressure is not controlled with 4 mg once daily. The interval before increasing the dose should generally be at least 3 ~ 4 weeks, the time required for this medicine to achieve its full pharmacological effect, except in patients who require more rapid dose escalation. If an adequate response is not achieved, another antihypertensive agent may be added (a beta-blocker and/or a diuretic). 2. Patients with hepatic impairment Because this medicine is metabolized mainly in the liver, its bioavailability and blood pressure-lowering effect may be increased in patients with hepatic impairment. These patients should be monitored carefully, and a reduced initial dose is recommended. 3. Patients with renal impairment This medicine is not excreted through the kidneys; therefore, dose adjustment is not necessary in patients with renal impairment. 4. Elderly patients The initial dose is 2 mg once daily. If necessary, it may be increased to 4 mg once daily after 4 weeks.
There is no experience using this medication in children.

Abrupt discontinuation of this medication may worsen symptoms; therefore, it must be reduced gradually as per a doctor’s instructions. Care must be taken when combining this medication with other antihypertensive drugs as it may cause blood pressure to drop too low. It is advisable not to take this with grapefruit juice, as it may alter the effects of the drug. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and safety in children has not been established.
