Treatment of kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to treat hypertension, and it is particularly helpful in the prevention and treatment of kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes. It contributes to effectively controlling blood pressure and protecting kidney function.
This medication can be taken with or without food, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day. For treating hypertension, the initial and maintenance dose is recommended to be 50 mg orally once daily as Losartan Potassium. The maximum blood pressure-lowering effect appears 3 to 6 weeks after treatment initiation. If the treatment effect is insufficient, the same dose can be split into two doses daily, or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily as needed.
For children and adolescents over 6 years of age: (1) For patients weighing 20 kg or above but less than 50 kg, a dose of 25 mg once daily is administered, with a maximum of 50 mg once daily depending on the patient's blood pressure response.

Drug interactions may occur if combined with other medications, so consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is advised, especially regarding the concurrent use of potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications, which can be dangerous. Rare side effects such as skin rashes, headaches, dizziness, muscle pain, and digestive disorders may occur, and if severe allergic reactions or angioedema happen, intake must be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. If a pregnant woman takes this medication, severe side effects such as low blood pressure or reduced kidney function may occur in the newborn, so close monitoring of the infant's condition is necessary. This medication is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and it is advisable to stop breastfeeding while on this medication. Children, particularly those under 6 years of age or with severe kidney impairment, should not take this medication.
