Improvement of symptoms in Alzheimer-type dementia
This medication is used to treat symptoms of Alzheimer-type dementia. It primarily helps improve memory decline, cognitive function deterioration, and difficulties with daily life. It is effective in maintaining the patient's cognitive abilities and slowing the progression of symptoms. This supports enhancing quality of life and making daily life smoother. Overall, it is used for improving symptoms of Alzheimer-type dementia.
As Donepezil Hydrochloride, take 5 mg once daily before bedtime. If unusual dreams, nightmares, or insomnia occur, morning administration may be considered. After administering the 5 mg dose for 4-6 weeks, clinical response can be evaluated for a possible increase to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg daily, gastrointestinal adverse reactions should be monitored. Underweight women aged 85 years or older require careful monitoring.
There is no experience with the use in children.
This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to specific components. Women who are pregnant, possibly pregnant, or breastfeeding should also avoid this medication. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take it. Patients with heart disease should use this medication with special caution as it may lower heart rate or cause arrhythmia. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with a history of peptic ulcers should closely monitor their gastrointestinal state as this medication can increase gastric acid secretion and worsen symptoms. This medication contains Yellow No. 5 dye, and patients who are allergic to this ingredient should be careful. This medication may cause cardiac-related adverse reactions, and if symptoms like fainting, bradycardia, heart block, or myocardial infarction appear, it should be stopped immediately and a doctor consulted. Gastrointestinal issues such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, nausea, vomiting may occur, so caution is needed if symptoms arise. Liver dysfunction or jaundice may occur, so it is advisable to regularly check liver health status. Neurological abnormalities such as seizures, convulsions, extrapyramidal symptoms, hallucinations, and confusion have been reported, and if such symptoms occur, a doctor should be consulted immediately. This medication may affect driving ability and machine operation, so caution is necessary at the beginning of treatment or when changing dosages. There may be interactions with other medications, so especially when combined with heart medications, antibiotics, antidepressants, or antipsychotics, a doctor should be consulted. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to take this medication, and if absolutely necessary, it should be used only after consulting a specialist. Safety has not been established in pediatric populations, so using this medication in children is not advisable. In case of overdose, serious symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, respiratory depression may occur, requiring immediate medical attention.
