Short-term treatment of duodenal ulcers and gastric ulcers and eradication of Helicobacter pylori, improvement of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms, inhibition of pathological gastric acid hypersecretion
This medication is effective for the short-term treatment of active duodenal ulcers and active benign gastric ulcers. It is also used to eradicate Helicobacter pylori for the prevention of duodenal ulcer recurrence and is helpful in maintenance therapy after ulcer treatment. It is utilized for the treatment of gastric ulcers induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and to reduce the risk of occurrence. It is effective for the short-term treatment and maintenance therapy after treatment of symptoms related to gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis, and is used in conditions of pathological hypersecretion such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medication is beneficial for the treatment of various gastrointestinal diseases.
This medication should be taken before meals. 1. Short-term treatment of active duodenal ulcers: Administer 15 mg of rabeprazole orally once daily for 4 weeks. 2. Short-term treatment of active benign gastric ulcers: Administer 30 mg of rabeprazole orally once daily for 8 weeks. 3. Eradication of Helicobacter pylori to prevent recurrence of duodenal ulcers 1) Administer 30 mg of rabeprazole with 250-500 mg of clarithromycin, 1000 mg of amoxicillin orally twice a day (every 12 hours) for 7 days. It can be extended up to 14 days if necessary. 2) Administer 30 mg of rabeprazole and 1000 mg of amoxicillin orally three times a day (every 8 hours) for 14 days. 4. Maintenance therapy after treatment of duodenal ulcers: Administer 15 mg of rabeprazole orally once daily. The duration of comparative clinical trials did not exceed 12 months. 5. Treatment of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers: Administer 30 mg of rabeprazole orally once daily for 8 weeks. The duration of comparative clinical trials did not exceed 8 weeks. 6. Reducing the risk of occurrence of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers: Administer 15 mg of rabeprazole orally once daily for 12 weeks. The duration of comparative clinical trials did not exceed 12 weeks. 7. Short-term treatment of symptoms related to gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 15 mg of rabeprazole orally once daily for 8 weeks. 8. Short-term treatment of erosive esophagitis: Administer 30 mg of rabeprazole orally once daily for 8 weeks. 9. Maintenance therapy after treatment of erosive esophagitis: Administer 15 mg of rabeprazole orally once daily. 10. Pathological hypersecretion states including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Dosage of rabeprazole for pathological hypersecretion states varies by individual patients. Typically, start with 60 mg once daily for adults. The dosage should be adjusted according to patient needs and can be continued as long as clinically effective. Dosing up to 90 mg per dose twice a day has been administered. If the total daily dose exceeds 120 mg, it should be divided. 11. Elderly patients: Dosage adjustment is necessary as clearance of this medication decreases in the elderly. The daily dose should not exceed 30 mg. 12. Patients with liver dysfunction: Caution is required as the metabolism and elimination of this medication may be delayed in patients with liver dysfunction; dosage adjustments may be necessary.
This medication should not be taken by individuals with allergic reactions to specific ingredients or those who have experienced severe side effects from this ingredient in the past. Additionally, pregnant women or patients taking certain antibiotics should not use this medication. Caution is required for the elderly, children, and nursing women, and they should consult a physician immediately if side effects occur. This medication can rarely cause severe allergic reactions or problems with the liver and kidneys; therefore, it should be discontinued and medical attention sought if unusual symptoms arise during use. Prolonged use may lead to nutrient deficiencies such as vitamin B12 deficiency or hypomagnesemia, requiring regular checks. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infection in the stomach, and gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea or abdominal pain may occur. As there are many drug interactions, patients currently taking other medications must inform their doctor or pharmacist, especially when taking antibiotics, antiviral drugs, or anticoagulants. Dizziness, drowsiness, vision disturbances may occur, requiring caution when driving or operating machinery. In case of overdose, gastric lavage or symptomatic treatment may be necessary, and this medication should be kept out of the reach of children. This medication is to be used only in the minimum dose and for an appropriate duration, and if symptoms persist or worsen, medical consultation is necessary.
Hives, severe edema, chest tightness, dyspnea, anaphylaxis, shock, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, severe mucosal pain in the oral/eye area, severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), jaundice, liver dysfunction accompanied by elevations in AST and ALT, sudden and severe headaches, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, acute interstitial nephritis, acute renal failure
