Improvement of symptoms of Alzheimer’s type dementia
This medication is used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s type dementia symptoms. It helps improve symptoms such as memory decline and cognitive function impairment, enhancing the quality of daily life. It aids in maintaining the patient's cognitive abilities and slowing the progression of symptoms.
As Donepezil Hydrochloride, take 5 mg once daily before bedtime. If unusual dreams, nightmares, or insomnia occur, morning dosing may be considered. After administering 5 mg for 4-6 weeks, evaluate clinical response and may increase to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg daily, monitor closely for gastrointestinal adverse effects. Weight-challenged female patients over 85 years old should take 5 mg daily and must not exceed this dosage.
There is no experience in using this medication in children.
This medication contains Donepezil Hydrochloride and is used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s type dementia symptoms. First, this medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to Donepezil Hydrochloride or any other ingredients in this medication, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women. Patients with heart diseases or those with heart conduction disorders should exercise caution as this medication may cause heart issues such as bradycardia or arrhythmia. Additionally, patients with a history of peptic ulcers or those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should take this medication cautiously as there is a risk of gastrointestinal bleeding or worsening ulcers. If asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease is present, this medication may cause bronchoconstriction, worsening symptoms. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease may also experience worsening symptoms with this medication, so caution is advised. This medication contains a dye known as Yellow No. 5. Patients who are allergic to this substance should inform their doctor prior to administration. Serious side effects reported include syncope, bradycardia, heart block, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver function impairment, seizures, extrapyramidal disorders, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, rhabdomyolysis, respiratory distress, acute pancreatitis, acute kidney failure, and sudden death; patients should consult a healthcare professional immediately if these symptoms occur. Commonly, side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, appetite loss, dizziness, insomnia, headache, fatigue may appear. It is necessary to monitor heart conditions regularly during the administration of this medication, especially if there is an existing QT interval prolongation or heart disease. Furthermore, this medication may affect the central nervous system, potentially impairing the ability to drive or operate machinery; caution is necessary during the initial use or when changing the dosage. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid this medication as a principle and should only decide to use it after consulting a doctor when absolutely necessary. Safety for children has not been established, so it should not be used in pediatric patients. This medication can interact with various drugs, so it is crucial to inform the healthcare professional about any other medications currently being taken. In case of overdose, severe vomiting, bradycardia, respiratory distress, and convulsions may occur, necessitating immediate emergency treatment. Lastly, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is safer not to transfer it to another container.
