Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication is primarily used for the treatment of hypertension. It also helps prevent or treat renal complications in patients with type 2 diabetes accompanied by hypertension. Therefore, it is used to control blood pressure and protect the kidneys related to hypertension.
This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day. 1. Hypertension - The initial and maintenance dose of Losartan Potassium is recommended as 50 mg taken orally once daily. - In cases where the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the dose can be increased to 100 mg taken orally once daily or divided into two doses. 2. Kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes - Generally, 50 mg taken orally once daily is advised.
Children and adolescents aged 6 years and older (1) Weight over 20 kg and less than 50 kg: Take 25 mg once daily, can be increased up to 50 mg once daily if needed (2) Weight 50 kg and above: 1
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medication should not be taken by individuals with hypersensitivity to it, pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, patients with severe liver dysfunction, or patients with certain hereditary diseases. Additionally, elderly patients, patients with compromised kidney function, and patients with hyperkalemia should be monitored closely while taking this medication, and it is not recommended to use it in conjunction with other RAAS acting drugs. During use, side effects such as dizziness, muscle cramps, cough, and dyspepsia may occur; if symptoms are severe, consult a physician. This medication can affect liver and kidney function, so patients with liver or kidney diseases may require dose adjustments, and if blood pressure drops too low or symptoms of renal failure appear, notify the medical personnel immediately. Due to the risk of elevated serum potassium levels, it is advisable to avoid taking potassium supplements or medications containing potassium together with this medication. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and blood tests to check kidney function and electrolyte status is necessary during use. This medication is not recommended for breastfeeding women, nor should it be used in children, especially in those under the age of 6 or those with severely impaired kidney function. In case of an overdose, hypotension and bradycardia may occur, and immediate appropriate treatment at a medical institution is necessary; this medication is not removed by hemodialysis. Caution is advised while driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur, and the medication should be stored out of reach of children.
Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), cold sweat, severe allergic reactions, angioedema, severe skin reactions, angioedema seen in patients receiving angiotensin II receptor blockers (possible airway obstruction), anaphylactic syndrome, liver dysfunction, hepatitis, fulminant hepatitis, severe skin rashes, blisters, skin peeling, oral/ocular mucosal pain, difficulty breathing, respiratory distress, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever,
