Relief of diabetic polyneuropathy
This medication is used to alleviate symptoms of inflammation of various nerves caused by diabetes, specifically diabetic polyneuropathy.
Adults: Take 600 milligrams of thioctic acid once daily with plenty of water, approximately 30 minutes before breakfast.
This medication contains a component called α-lipoic acid and should not be administered to patients allergic to this component or other excipients. Additionally, it is not safe to use this medication in children and adolescents due to insufficient clinical experience in this age group. During use, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may rarely occur. Allergic reactions such as rash, urticaria, and itching of the skin may occur rarely, so if any unusual symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. This medication can lower blood sugar levels, potentially causing symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, sweating, headache, and visual disturbances, so diabetes patients should exercise caution. Taste disturbances have been reported rarely, and if discomfort persists after taking the medication, inform a healthcare professional. Individuals who frequently consume alcohol may have an increased risk of nerve damage, so it is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption when taking this medication, as well as during breaks from it. This medication may decrease the effectiveness of the anticancer drug cisplatin, so caution is required to avoid taking them together. Taking this medication with preparations containing iron, magnesium, calcium, or foods with metal compounds like milk may reduce its effectiveness; therefore, dosing times should be adjusted accordingly. When taken with insulin or oral diabetic medications, the blood-sugar-lowering effect may be increased, so blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently, and the drug dosage adjusted if necessary. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should carefully consider the benefits and risks of this medication under a doctor's guidance. Overdose of this medication can lead to serious poisoning symptoms, so if suspected, seek appropriate medical treatment immediately. When storing, avoid high temperatures above 30 degrees; keep in a safe place out of the reach of children. Moreover, transferring the medication to another container can cause quality degradation or accidents, so it is recommended to keep it in the original container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air and moisture; therefore, it should be stored in a tightly closed container. It is advisable to store it at room temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees. Storing it this way will help maintain the medication's effectiveness safely.
