Short-term adjunctive treatment for weight loss in exogenous obesity
This medication is used for obese patients who do not respond to appropriate dietary and exercise regimens. It provides short-term adjunctive therapy for patients with exogenous obesity, particularly those with an initial body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or higher, or a BMI of 27 kg/m² or higher with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. This medication should be used in conjunction with weight loss therapy based on exercise, behavior modification, and calorie restriction, and it is important to use it alone without combining it with other appetite suppressants. Body mass index is calculated using weight and height to assess the degree of obesity. This medication supports effective weight loss and contributes to improving health status.
Adults: Administer 37.5 mg of phentermine hydrochloride orally once daily, before breakfast or 1 to 2 hours after breakfast. Use the minimum effective dose and adjust individually to achieve an adequate response. A dose of 18.75 mg once daily may be appropriate for some patients, and in some cases, taking 18.75 mg twice daily may be preferable. Avoid taking this medication late at night because it may cause insomnia. This medication should be administered for a short period (within 4 weeks). However, to reduce the risk of inappropriate use, treatment may be continued if the patient achieves satisfactory weight loss within the first 4 weeks (weight loss of at least 1.8 kg, or weight loss considered satisfactory by both the physician and the patient).
This medication should not be used in conjunction with other appetite suppressants and should be used alone for a short duration. During the course of treatment with this medication, initial symptoms of serious cardiovascular diseases such as primary pulmonary hypertension should be carefully monitored. If symptoms such as shortness of breath, angina, fainting, or lower limb edema occur, it is necessary to notify a physician immediately and discontinue the medication. Long-term or high-dose use should be avoided due to the potential risk related to heart valve disease. Individuals with certain conditions such as arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, severe hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, or hyperthyroidism should not take this medication. Patients with glaucoma or those who are mentally agitated or excited should also refrain from using this medication. Children under 16 years of age and pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not take this medication. Diabetic patients may need to adjust their insulin dosage when taking this medication, thus caution is advised. This medication can cause serious central nervous system and cardiovascular adverse effects in case of overdose, so prescribed dosages must be strictly followed. Care should be taken when engaging in potentially hazardous activities such as operating machinery or driving while on this medication. To avoid dangerous interactions, it is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication. This medication is classified as a controlled substance and may lead to abuse and dependence; thus, it should be used cautiously under a physician's guidance. It should be stored in a safe place out of reach of children, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a physician before use.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is recommended to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius.
