Improvement of cholesterol and lipids in hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and mixed hyperlipidemia.
This medication helps to reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, ApoB protein, and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia while increasing HDL cholesterol. It can be used as an adjunct to other therapies or as monotherapy in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication should be used in conjunction with an appropriate dietary regimen that restricts saturated fats and cholesterol, and is prescribed as an adjunct when dietary changes alone are insufficient. Before starting treatment, it is important to identify and treat any secondary causes such as diabetes or hypothyroidism. During treatment, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels should be regularly monitored and managed. This medication is used to improve blood lipid levels and reduce the risk of atherosclerotic disease.
This medication is administered once daily in the evening, regardless of meals. For patients with primary hypercholesterolemia: Administer in the range of 10/10mg to 10/40mg daily, with the commonly recommended initial dose being 10/20mg daily. Patients with less need to reduce LDL cholesterol can start at 10/10mg daily. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: Administer 10/40mg once daily in the evening.
This medication is primarily used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. During treatment, muscle-related symptoms may occur, which can manifest as muscle pain or weakness, and in severe cases, can lead to rhabdomyolysis due to muscle tissue destruction. The risk of these symptoms increases with high doses or concurrent use with certain medications, so caution is advised. This medication should not be used in patients with severe liver disease or persistent unexplained elevation of liver enzymes, in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or in cases of concurrent administration with certain medications. Additionally, administration is contraindicated in patients with certain genetic disorders due to the ingredients in this medication. Patients with muscle weakness or muscle weakness around the eyes should use this medication with caution, and discontinue use immediately if symptoms worsen. While taking this medication, if muscle pain, muscle weakness, or unexplained muscle-related symptoms occur, notify a doctor immediately, and muscle enzyme testing may be required. Liver function abnormalities may occur, making regular liver function tests important before and during treatment. This medication can interact with multiple drugs, and especially when taken with medications that inhibit liver enzymes responsible for drug metabolism, the risk of muscle-related side effects may increase, so it is crucial to inform the doctor about all medications currently being taken. During pregnancy, this medication may harm the fetus, so it should not be taken if planning a pregnancy or during pregnancy; fertile women should only take it when the possibility of pregnancy is low. Women who are breastfeeding should also refrain from using this medication. The safety for children and adolescents has not been sufficiently established, so it should be used carefully under the guidance of a specialist. The elderly may respond more sensitively to this medication, requiring caution. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so it is essential to receive appropriate treatment based on symptoms. When taking this medication, regular check-ups and strict adherence to the doctor's instructions are advisable for safety.
