Precautions

This medication should not be administered to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and to breastfeeding women. It should also not be used in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation. It should not be given to certain patients whose tumors may cause hypertension, and those who have an allergic reaction or cannot tolerate this medication should avoid taking it. Patients with liver disease, specific stages of mental illness, and those with breast-related diseases should also refrain from using this medication. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with genetic issues related to lactose intolerance. Patients with hypertension, children, and the elderly should exercise extra caution when using this medication. Especially in children, dose adjustments may be necessary as side effects can more easily arise from the drug. While taking this medication, hormonal-related adverse symptoms such as amenorrhea, galactorrhea, and gynecomastia may occur, and careful monitoring is necessary. Additionally, rarely, neurological side effects such as tremors, tongue twisting, and anxiety may occur; if any symptoms present, the medication should be discontinued. Long-term use may lead to involuntary movements around the mouth and gastrointestinal symptoms such as dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiac-related side effects may include hypertension or arrhythmias, and rarely, serious neuromuscular malignant syndrome may occur, necessitating immediate treatment if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered consciousness arise. If skin rashes or swelling occur, medication should be stopped, and occasionally, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, and erectile dysfunction may also be reported. This medication can affect the endocrine function of the brain, so patients should be informed of this before starting the drug. Moreover, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery that requires concentration during the course of this medication. Due to potential risks associated with cardiac rhythm abnormalities, patients with heart disease or a high risk of stroke should be especially cautious. Interactions may occur when used with other medications, so caution is needed when co-administering with anticholinergics, analgesics, certain cardiac medications, and other psychiatric medications. Particularly, it should not be taken with alcohol, and co-administration with drugs causing electrolyte imbalances should also be avoided. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication as safety for the fetus and neonate has not been established. The elderly should be particularly cautious due to prolonged presence of the drug in the body resulting from decreased renal function, potentially leading to side effects; dosing and intervals should be adjusted accordingly. As this medication suppresses vomiting, it may obscure symptoms of other diseases causing vomiting, so the condition should be closely monitored. Animal studies have indicated that long-term high-dose administration may affect the reproductive organs, necessitating caution.
