Efficacy & effects

Improvement of hydration and nutrition through intravenous nutrient supply

View approved original text

This medication is used to provide water, electrolytes, amino acids, and calories to patients who cannot obtain sufficient nutrition orally or via the gastrointestinal tract. In other words, it directly supplies essential nutrients through the veins when the patient cannot consume normal food, thus helping to maintain and restore bodily function. This contributes to improving the patient's nutritional status and aids in health recovery.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Open the partition immediately before administration to mix solutions A and B. The maximum dosage is 1 to 1.5 g of total amino acids per day per kg of body weight. The infusion rate should not exceed 1.0 mL per hour (corresponding to glucose 0.25 g/kg and amino acids 0.04 g/kg) and it is preferable to administer this through central veins over 12 to 24 hours.

Children's dosage

For children, the dosage and infusion rate should be adjusted accordingly.

Precautions

This medication must be used only according to a doctor's instructions. If used in conjunction with calcium-containing preparations administered intravenously, precipitates may form when mixed with certain antibiotics, so do not use the same infusion apparatus concurrently. Patients with allergic reactions, specific elevated electrolyte levels, or significantly compromised kidney or liver function should not use this medication. Particularly, it is safest not to administer this medication to neonates and children under 2 years old. Patients with bacteremia, heart failure, diabetes, or pancreatic disorders should use this medication cautiously, as allergic reactions may occur. During administration, blood glucose, electrolytes, and liver and kidney functions should be frequently monitored to detect any unusual signs early and respond accordingly. This medication contains high concentrations of glucose, which may lead to side effects such as hyperglycemia or acidosis; if symptoms occur, appropriate treatment should be sought immediately. Pregnant or nursing women should use this medication cautiously, as its safety has not been established, and it should be used at the doctor's discretion. Elderly patients may have decreased bodily function, so it is necessary to slowly adjust the infusion rate and dosage. In case of overdose, there is a risk of acidosis, fluid overload, and electrolyte imbalances, so dosing methods and quantities must be strictly adhered to. This medication must be administered slowly via central veins, and peripheral vein drip infusion should be avoided. Injections should be performed under sterile conditions to prevent infection, and the state of the solution should be thoroughly checked before use. Once opened, use quickly, and any unused remaining solution or apparatus should not be reused and must be disposed of. Store this medication in a sealed container to prevent contact with air, and it is recommended to store it at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the efficacy of the drug.
