Effective for surface anesthesia in injections, surgical procedures, genital mucosa, and leg ulcer.
This medication is used to anesthetize the skin surface when inserting a needle or performing superficial surgical procedures. It also provides anesthesia when applied to the genital mucosa, such as before condyloma removal procedures. Additionally, it is used for surface anesthesia of leg ulcers, numbing the areas required during washing or superficial surgery to reduce pain. Overall, it is effective for surface anesthesia of the skin or mucosa.
1. Skin: After applying this medication, cover with a sealing tape. Sealing the application area should usually be maintained for 1-3 hours, and effectiveness continues for at least 1 hour after tape removal. 1) When inserting a needle (e.g., venipuncture, blood collection), apply approximately 2g of this medication for at least 1 hour and a maximum of 5 hours. 2) For superficial surgical procedures (e.g., excision of sebaceous cysts), apply 1.5-2g/10㎠ for 1 hour.
Infants aged 3 months to 12 months: total amount 2g, applied area must not exceed 16㎠.
This medication is used as a local anesthetic and may cause a rare blood disorder known as methemoglobinemia. This condition can lead to a decrease in the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood, resulting in a bluish discoloration of the skin. Caution is especially needed in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital methemoglobinemia, heart or lung impairment, infants less than 6 months old, or when used with oxidizing agents, as symptoms may be more severe. This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to any components, or in those with wounds, mucosal sites, contact dermatitis, or atopic dermatitis, infants under 3 months of age, and those under 12 months who are receiving medications that induce methemoglobinemia, as well as premature infants born before 37 weeks. Caution should be exercised in those with a history of anemia or methemoglobinemia, as well as in the frail, elderly, and those with liver disease, and those with an allergy to propylene glycol contained in this medication. Local reactions, such as pallor, redness, swelling, itching, and initial burning sensations, may occur upon use, and rarely severe allergic reactions such as urticaria, angioedema, bronchospasm, and shock may develop. Special attention should be given to children, as methemoglobinemia can occur rarely. This medication is generally safe when used at the recommended doses; however, it may affect the central nervous system or the heart in some patients, necessitating immediate medical treatment if symptoms occur. Additionally, it is preferable not to use this medication in conjunction with live vaccines. It should not be applied around the eyes, middle ear, or open wound sites, and if contact with the eyes occurs, they should be rinsed immediately and protected. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should also use this medication cautiously, and it should only be used with limitations in children, especially infants under 3 months. In cases of overdose, severe neurological symptoms or methemoglobinemia may occur, requiring immediate medical intervention, with methylthioninium potentially used as an antidote. Lastly, long-term high-dose use of this medication raises concerns about potential accumulation of metabolites that could be carcinogenic, so long-term use should be avoided.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication can be sensitive to air or moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. Additionally, to maintain the effectiveness of the drug, it is important to store it at room temperature, between 1 degree and 30 degrees.
