Improvement of hypertension and diabetic nephropathy
This medication is used to treat hypertension, particularly in patients with type 2 diabetes who also have hypertension-induced nephropathy. By controlling hypertension, it prevents kidney function deterioration and improves overall health. Therefore, it is used to treat hypertension and nephropathy resulting from diabetes complications.
For hypertension, the recommended dose is 50 mg administered orally once a day. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the dose can be divided into twice a day or increased up to 100 mg once daily. In patients with type 2 diabetes and nephropathy, 50 mg once daily is typical, with dose adjustments up to 100 mg possible depending on blood pressure. For children aged 6 and older and adolescents weighing 20 kg or more but less than 50 kg, the recommended dose is 25 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 50 mg possible. For patients weighing 50 kg or more, the recommended daily dose is 50 mg.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This drug should not be used in specific patients, such as those with severe liver impairment, hereditary angioedema, primary hyperaldosteronism, or lactose intolerance. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function, hyperkalemia, etc., should use this medication with caution, requiring regular checks as there is a risk of overly low blood pressure or worsening kidney function. This drug is generally well-tolerated, but some patients may experience side effects such as dizziness, headache, myalgia, cough, dyspepsia, so consult a healthcare provider if any unusual symptoms occur. Blood pressure may drop rapidly, leading to fainting; therefore, especially for patients with low blood volume or those on diuretics, it is advisable to start at a low dose and closely monitor their condition. When used with other antihypertensive medications or potassium-sparing diuretics, or potassium supplements, blood potassium levels can dangerously increase, so consult a doctor before taking this medication with other drugs. Grapefruit juice may reduce the efficacy of this drug, so it is best to avoid grapefruit juice while taking this medication. Women who may become pregnant should consult a physician before taking this medication, and it is safer not to use it during pregnancy. This drug is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and if it must be taken, it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding. While taking this medication, blood pressure, kidney function, and serum electrolyte levels should be monitored regularly for abnormalities, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur, especially during the initial treatment or when changing doses.
Hives, angioedema (swelling of the larynx/glottis causing airway obstruction, swelling of the face/lips/pharynx/tongue), severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, exfoliative dermatitis, oral/ocular mucosal pain, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory issues accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), profound fatigue.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication must be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent air and moisture from entering. It is recommended to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees at room temperature. Proper storage will help maintain the medication's efficacy for an extended period.
