This medication improves symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, helps in the regression of the enlarged prostate, and aids in the smooth flow of urine. It effectively reduces the frequency of acute urinary retention and decreases the necessity for prostate surgery, allowing patients to have a more comfortable daily life.
Administer Finasteride 5 mg orally once a day, regardless of meals. Even if symptoms improve after starting the medication, treatment should continue for at least 6 months.
This medication is not for use in children and women. Specifically, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not handle broken pieces of this medication, as it can affect male fetuses. During the course of this medication, depression or mood changes may occur; consult a healthcare provider immediately if such symptoms arise. Patients with allergies to this medication or specific genetic issues like lactose intolerance should not use it. Patients with impaired liver function should use this medication cautiously. This medication may cause side effects related to sexual function, including erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, and ejaculation issues. Most side effects are temporary and mild, but caution is warranted due to reports of increased risk of breast cancer with long-term use. This medication may increase the risk of high-grade prostate cancer; therefore, males over the age of 55 should consult with a healthcare provider thoroughly before use. Interactions with other medications are not known, but if you are currently taking any other medications, inform your healthcare provider. Pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers should not take this medication, and pregnant women must be aware of the risks to male fetuses. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established; therefore, it is not used in children. Elderly patients can use this medication similar to regular adults, but no special dose adjustment is necessary. This medication may lower prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels; caution is advised when interpreting PSA test results. There are no specific antidotes for overdose, but reported adverse reactions are rare. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container for safety.
Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), difficulty breathing, chest tightness, severe allergic reactions, severe rash with high fever, blisters, peeling skin, pain in mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, severe skin reactions, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme fatigue, liver anomalies (jaundice), sudden and severe headaches, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, serious neurological symptoms, urinary incontinence
Erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, reduced ejaculation volume, ejaculation disorders, breast enlargement, breast tenderness, rash, itching, headache, dizziness, muscle pain, myasthenia, fatigue, indigestion, constipation, gastrointestinal disturbances (heartburn), dry mouth, tingling in both hands, otitis media, abnormal liver function

This medication should be stored at room temperature between 1°C and 30°C, in a sealed container protected from light. Storing it this way will help maintain the medication's effectiveness over time.
