Improvement of symptoms and urinary flow in benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduction of surgical necessity
Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a condition characterized by the enlargement of the prostate gland, which causes difficulty in urination. This medication helps to alleviate symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia and aids in the regression of the enlarged prostate and improvement of urinary flow. Additionally, it has the effect of reducing the frequency of acute urinary retention and decreasing the necessity for prostate surgery. Therefore, this medication is effectively used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Administer 5 mg of Finasteride once daily orally, regardless of meals. Even if symptoms improve during treatment, a minimum of 6 months of therapy is required.
This medication should not be used by children or women. Particularly, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid contact with broken pieces of this medication. While it is coated and does not pose a risk during normal handling, it can be hazardous if broken or damaged. During the use of this medication, symptoms of depression or mood changes may occur, and if such symptoms arise, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional. Generally, this medication has a low incidence of side effects and good tolerability, but sexual function-related problems (erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, ejaculation disorders, etc.) may occur. Consultation with a doctor is necessary if such symptoms appear. There have been reports of a possible association with male breast cancer with long-term use, so caution is warranted during prolonged administration. This medication can impact the risk of prostate cancer, so regular check-ups and monitoring of PSA levels are essential, especially for men over 55 years old. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication, and exposure during pregnancy poses a risk of genital abnormalities in male fetuses, so caution is needed. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children, hence it is not used in this population. Elderly patients can use this medication without special dosage adjustment, but observation of their condition is recommended. There is little likelihood of interaction with other medications, but if abnormal symptoms occur, they should inform their healthcare provider.
