This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension. In particular, it is effective in slowing the progression of kidney disease that may arise from hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it helps to prevent various complications associated with hypertension. This drug helps to control blood pressure, improve cardiovascular health, and contribute to protecting kidney function. Overall, it is used in the treatment of kidney diseases associated with hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication can be taken without regard to meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day. For the treatment of hypertension, the initial and maintenance dose is recommended to be 50 mg orally once daily. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, it can be split into two doses per day or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For the treatment of kidney disease in type 2 diabetes patients with hypertension, usually, 50 mg is administered once daily.

Precautions

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not take it. It should be avoided in patients with severely impaired liver function or hereditary angioedema, and certain patients with lactose intolerance. Elderly patients, patients with poor kidney function, and patients with hyperkalemia should use this drug with greater caution as there is a risk of sudden drops in blood pressure. While this drug is effective in lowering blood pressure, side effects such as dizziness, headache, muscle pain, and cough may occur, and rare serious side effects such as angioedema, liver dysfunction, and renal failure have also been reported. Particularly, since serum potassium levels may rise, the concomitant use of potassium supplements or drugs containing potassium is not recommended. During the use of this drug, regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels should be performed, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Moreover, this drug is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and if taken, cessation of breastfeeding is advisable. In case of overdose, hypotension and bradycardia may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. When taking this medication, keep it out of reach of children and ensure it is not transferred to other containers.
