This medication is used in the treatment of essential hypertension classified as mild to moderate.

How to take

Adult dose

As Lercanidipine Hydrochloride, administer 5 to 10 mg orally once daily at least 15 minutes before a meal. The dosage may be increased up to 20 mg depending on the patient's symptoms. Dosage adjustments are often gradual, as it may take up to 2 weeks for the maximum antihypertensive effect to become apparent.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to specific patients. For instance, it must not be taken by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those allergic to this drug or similar components, patients with severe heart disease, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, or children under 18 years. Furthermore, patients with arrhythmias or heart issues, mild to moderate liver or kidney impairment, those with a history of angina, individuals who consume alcohol frequently, and the elderly should use this medication with caution. While taking this medication, side effects such as facial flushing, swelling of the hands and feet, rapid heart rate, headache, dizziness, dyspepsia, nausea, and liver function abnormalities may occur. Particularly, liver function tests should be performed regularly, and if abnormalities are present, discontinuation of the medication is necessary. Abrupt cessation of this medication may worsen symptoms, so dosages should be gradually reduced according to the physician's instructions. Additionally, dizziness or drowsiness may occur, requiring caution when driving or operating machinery. This drug is metabolized in the liver, and its effectiveness may change when taken with certain drugs; therefore, consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is required, and grapefruit juice or alcohol should be avoided.
