Children's dosage
Infants aged 3 months to 12 months: total of 2g, not to exceed an application area of 16 cm².

This medication is used for surface anesthesia of the skin during needle insertion or surgical procedures. It is also effective for surface anesthesia of the genital mucosa, such as before condyloma removal. Additionally, it is utilized for surface anesthesia of the skin before superficial operations for cleaning wound areas like leg ulcers, or for removing fibrin and pus. Therefore, it is used safely and effectively in various situations requiring surface anesthesia of the skin and mucosa.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

1. Skin: After applying this medication, cover it with a sealing tape. The seal should be maintained for at least 1-3 hours for the application area, and the effect lasts for at least 1 hour after removing the sealing tape. 1) For needle insertion (e.g., intravenous catheterization, blood collection), apply approximately 2g of this medication for a minimum of 1 hour and a maximum of 5 hours. 2) For superficial surgeries (e.g., excision of sebaceous cyst), apply 1.5-2g/10 cm² for 1 hour.

Precautions

This drug is used as a local anesthetic, and there is a risk of a blood disorder called methemoglobinemia in some patients. Caution is particularly needed in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia, cardiac or pulmonary damage, infants under 6 months, and when used with oxidizing agents. Symptoms such as skin turning blue or abnormal coloration of blood should be carefully monitored during the use of this drug. If symptoms worsen, discontinue the medication immediately and inform the healthcare provider, and oxygen therapy or specialized treatment may be necessary. It should not be used in individuals with allergies to this drug's ingredients or similar local anesthetics, in areas with wounds or dermatitis, in infants under 3 months, in infants under 12 months who are taking certain medications, and in premature infants. Caution should be taken when using this drug in the elderly, particularly those with anemia or liver disease. This drug contains an ingredient called propylene glycol, which requires caution in individuals with allergies to this substance. Local administration may cause side effects such as skin pallor, redness, swelling, itching, initial burning sensation, corneal irritation, purpura, or petechial bleeding. Rarely, severe allergic reactions may occur. It may cause corneal irritation if it comes into contact with the eyes, so it should be avoided around the eyes, and if it enters the eyes, it should be rinsed immediately with water. The risk of side effects may be increased when used with certain specific medications, so it is essential to inform the healthcare provider of any medications being taken. Caution is also advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and particularly in neonates or children, as safety has not been adequately established. Overuse may result in neurological symptoms or severe side effects, so immediate treatment is required if abnormal symptoms occur. Long-term high-dose use of this drug should be avoided, and accurate dosing as directed by a healthcare provider should be followed during use.
