Precautions

This drug is used as a local anesthetic and can cause a rare blood disorder called methemoglobinemia, so caution is required. Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital methemoglobinemia, heart or lung damage, and infants under 6 months of age are more sensitive to this condition and require close observation during use. This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to its ingredients or on areas with wounds, mucous membranes, contact dermatitis, or atopic dermatitis. Additionally, it should not be administered to infants under 3 months of age or those under 12 months of age who are taking medications that can induce methemoglobinemia, nor to premature infants born before 37 weeks of gestation. Use with caution in individuals with a history of anemia or methemoglobinemia, the frail, the elderly, those with acute illnesses, or severe liver disease. Depending on the application site, localized reactions such as pallor, redness, swelling, itching, and burning sensations may occur; allergic reactions including hives, angioedema, bronchospasm, and shock may also occur. In children, methemoglobinemia or skin bleeding reactions may rarely occur, so caution is recommended. This drug should not be used around the eyes or in the middle ear. If it comes into contact with the eyes, it should be washed immediately with clean water and protected. In cases of overdose, neurological symptoms or severe blood abnormalities may occur, so immediate consultation with medical personnel and appropriate treatment is necessary. Pregnant or nursing women should use this drug with caution as it may cross the placenta or be excreted in breast milk. Using this drug in combination with other local anesthetics or certain medications may increase toxicity, so consult with a doctor or pharmacist regarding drug interactions. This drug should be used strictly according to the recommended dosage and duration, and it is particularly advisable to reduce the application time in cases of atopic dermatitis. Finally, long-term use or high doses of this drug has shown potential carcinogenicity in animal studies, so it is safest to avoid this if possible.
