Essential hypertension is high blood pressure without a specific cause, and this medication is used to appropriately lower blood pressure in cases of mild to moderate hypertension, thereby protecting heart and vascular health.

How to take

Adult dose

As Lercanidipine Hydrochloride, take 5 to 10 mg once daily orally at least 15 minutes before a meal. The dose may be increased to 20 mg depending on the patient's symptoms. Dose adjustments should be made gradually as the maximum antihypertensive effect takes about 2 weeks to manifest.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in specific patients. For example, it should not be administered to individuals who are allergic to this drug or similar medications, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with cardiac function issues, those with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, patients who have recently had a myocardial infarction, and children and adolescents under 18 years old. In addition, it should be used with caution in patients with syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone, left ventricular dysfunction, ischemic heart disease, mild to moderate liver or kidney dysfunction, a history of angina, patients who frequently consume alcohol, and the elderly. While taking this medication, patients should be aware of possible side effects such as facial flushing, swelling of hands and feet, rapid heart rate, dizziness, headaches, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, etc. If liver dysfunction is suspected, treatment should be immediately discontinued and medical attention should be sought. Suddenly stopping this medication can worsen symptoms, so when discontinuing, the dose should be gradually reduced, and care should be taken for symptoms like dizziness or drowsiness while driving or operating machinery. This drug is metabolized in the liver, so taking it together with specific medications can alter its efficacy or side effects, therefore it is important to consult with a doctor or pharmacist regarding concomitant medications. For instance, it is advisable to avoid taking it with specific antifungal agents, antibiotics, anticonvulsants, grapefruit juice, and alcohol.
