Treatment of male pattern hair loss
This medication is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss in adult men, particularly between the ages of 18 and 41, known as androgenetic alopecia. Male pattern hair loss is a condition characterized by hair loss due to genetic factors and the influence of male hormones. This medication helps promote hair growth and inhibits the progression of hair loss. When taken consistently, it is effective in improving hair loss and the condition of the hair. When used safely, it can assist in alleviating symptoms of hair loss.
Typically, finasteride is taken orally at a dose of 1 mg once daily, and can be taken without regard to meals. Generally, treatment effects can be observed after taking the medication for more than 3 months, and it is recommended to continue taking it to maintain the treatment effects. The duration of treatment and efficacy should be continuously evaluated.
This medication should not be used by pediatric patients or women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should avoid contact with broken pieces of this medication, as the ingredients can be absorbed through the skin and pose a risk to a male fetus. While taking this medication, mood changes such as feelings of depression or suicidal thoughts may occur, so it is essential to consult a healthcare professional immediately if such symptoms arise. Pregnant women must not take this medication as it may cause abnormalities in the external genitalia of male fetuses. Patients with an allergy to this drug or its components, patients already taking similar medications, or patients with certain genetic disorders should also not take this medication. Patients with liver function issues should use this medication with extra caution, and should consult a doctor immediately if any adverse reactions occur. During treatment, sexual side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and difficulties with ejaculation have been reported, but these symptoms typically resolve once the medication is stopped. Some patients may also experience breast tenderness or enlargement, rashes, headaches, dizziness, and palpitations. This medication may increase the risk of prostate cancer, so men aged 55 and older should have regular tests to monitor their condition. This medication has minimal interactions with other drugs, but if other medications are being taken, it is crucial to inform healthcare providers. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take or come into contact with this medication, and it is also not used in children where safety has not been established. There is generally no need for dosage adjustments in the elderly, but caution is advised since the effectiveness of this medication is not guaranteed. While taking this medication, PSA levels may decrease in blood tests, so caution should be exercised when interpreting the results. There is no specific antidote for overdose, and it should be kept out of reach of children. Transferring the medication to other containers is discouraged as it can affect quality.
