Improvement of mild to moderate essential hypertension
This medication is used to treat mild to moderate essential hypertension.
As Lercanidipine Hydrochloride, an oral dose of 5 to 10 mg should be administered once daily at least 15 minutes before meals. The dose may be increased to 20 mg based on the patient's symptoms. Dose adjustments should be gradual, as the maximum blood pressure-lowering effect typically appears after two weeks. Caution is necessary for the elderly and patients with liver and kidney impairment.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, it is not for those who are allergic to this drug or similar medications, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with certain heart-related diseases, severely impaired kidney or liver function, and children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Additionally, patients with arrhythmia, mild to moderate kidney or liver dysfunction, a history of angina, those who consume alcohol frequently, and the elderly should use this medication with caution. While taking this medication, side effects such as facial flushing, peripheral edema, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, indigestion, etc., may occur. Liver function anomalies or skin rashes and muscle pain may also occur rarely, so any abnormal symptoms should prompt a consultation with a physician. If the medication is abruptly discontinued, symptoms may worsen, so the dosage should be gradually reduced. Care should be taken while driving or operating machinery due to potential dizziness or drowsiness. This medication is metabolized in the liver, so drug interactions may occur when taken with certain medications. In particular, caution should be exercised when taking it with certain antifungals, antibiotics, anticonvulsants, immunosuppressants, grapefruit juice, etc., as the effectiveness of this medication may change. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication, and it should not be used in children or adolescents. Special attention is required for the elderly, but generally, dose adjustment is not necessary. In case of overdose, severe hypotension or heart problems may occur, so if an overdose is suspected, immediate medical attention is needed, and this medication may not be removed by dialysis. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and transferring the medication to another container should be avoided.
