Relief of diabetic polyneuropathy
This medication helps alleviate nerve damage and pain caused by diabetic polyneuropathy. It is used to improve the patient's nerve function and enhance the quality of life.
Adults: Take 600 milligrams of thioctic acid once daily with a sufficient amount of water, approximately 30 minutes before breakfast.
This medication contains the ingredient α-lipoic acid and should not be used by patients with certain allergic reactions, as well as by children and adolescents. Rarely, gastrointestinal adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur. Allergic symptoms such as skin rash, hives, and itching may also occur. This medication may lower blood sugar levels, so caution is advised for symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, sweating, headache, and visual disturbances. Occasionally, taste disturbances have been reported, and some patients may experience upper abdominal pain, vomiting, indigestion, hives, itching, nausea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Individuals who frequently consume alcohol may have an increased risk of nerve damage and may reduce the effectiveness of this medication, so it is advisable to avoid alcohol as much as possible. This also applies during periods of discontinuation. Caution is necessary as the effectiveness of this medication may be reduced when taken with certain anticancer drugs like cisplatin. Additionally, it is advisable to space the intake of iron, magnesium, calcium-containing foods or preparations to avoid interference with absorption. When taken with insulin or other diabetes medications, the blood sugar-lowering effect may intensify, so blood sugar levels should be monitored frequently and medication dosages adjusted as necessary. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should carefully take this medication under the supervision of a physician, as its safety has not been fully established. In cases of overdose, severe intoxication symptoms may occur, including altered consciousness, generalized convulsions, hypoglycemia, and multi-organ failure; therefore, immediate medical attention is required. When storing, avoid high temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, keep out of reach of children, and do not transfer to other containers, as this may lead to quality degradation or accidents.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent air and moisture ingress, and it is safest to store at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it is best to avoid direct sunlight and not to place it in excessively hot or cold locations.
