Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension and helps slow the progression of kidney disease, particularly in patients with type 2 diabetes who have hypertension. It is used to manage health by controlling blood pressure and protecting kidney function.
This medication can be taken without regard to meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day. For adults with hypertension, the initial and maintenance dose of losartan potassium is recommended to be 50 mg taken orally once daily; if therapeutic effects are inadequate, it can be divided into twice daily dosing or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension, the usual dose is 50 mg once daily, and it can be increased to a maximum of once daily based on blood pressure.
For children and adolescents aged 6 years and older weighing between 20 kg and under 50 kg, a dosage of 25 mg once daily is recommended, with a maximum increase to 50 mg once daily. For children weighing over 50 kg, the usual dosage is 50 mg once daily.

This medication is metabolized by specific enzymes, thus grapefruit juice should be avoided, and possible interactions with other drugs should be discussed with healthcare providers. While taking this medication, regular blood tests and blood pressure measurements are necessary to reduce the risk of hyperkalemia, kidney function abnormalities, and hypotension.
