This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension as well as myocardial ischemia associated with stable angina caused by fixed obstruction of the coronary arteries and variant angina due to vasospasm of the coronary circulation.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose is 5 mg once daily by mouth as Amlodipine, and if symptoms do not improve within 2 to 4 weeks, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 10 mg per day depending on the patient's response. Adjust according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to individuals who are allergic to this medication or its components, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, breastfeeding women, patients with cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, unstable angina, patients within 1 month post-myocardial infarction, patients with severe hepatic impairment, and patients with severe hypotension. Additionally, caution should be exercised when administering this medication to patients with very poor renal function, the elderly, patients with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, patients with slightly impaired or moderately impaired liver function, patients with limited left ventricular function, patients with weak cardiac function, and diabetic patients. This medication is generally well tolerated, but some patients may experience symptoms such as flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, abdominal pain, nausea, drowsiness, and ankle edema. Rarely, various side effects such as dry mouth, increased sweating, hypotension, fainting, sensory disturbances, erectile dysfunction, and skin rashes have been reported. Stopping this medication suddenly may worsen symptoms, so it should not be discontinued without a doctor's guidance. Moreover, dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with impaired liver function, and since the blood pressure-lowering effect appears slowly, it is not suitable for cases requiring immediate treatment. The medication should be taken with adequate water, and caution is necessary regarding dizziness due to blood pressure reduction during driving or operating dangerous machinery. This medication may interact with various other drugs, so it is advisable not to combine it with grapefruit juice, and consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary when taking certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, antidepressants, etc. The safety of this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established, and it is recommended to avoid its use. The safety in children has not been confirmed, and in elderly patients, blood concentration may increase, so it should be started at a low dose and administered cautiously. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, cardiac irregularities, or shock may occur, requiring immediate medical treatment. Hemodialysis is not effective. Finally, keep this medication out of the reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it into different containers.
